7 Miles!

Luke 24:13-35
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.
17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

19 “What things?” he asked.

“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.”

25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

What's the point of this? Critics discount the resurrection of Jesus Christ. One of the theories is that Jesus never fully died. Instead, he was buried in the tomb while still alive and somehow escaped from the tomb. Some say the disciples came and stole the body. But either way, Jesus was severely beaten and for him to heal in 3 days to walk with the disciples to Emmaus (7 miles!) is unthinkable. People still don't believe and they can make up all theories they want. But do you believe he died and resurrected from the dead?

What's interesting about this story is the disciples didn't recognize Christ in his resurrected bodies. Christ was right in front of them but yet they were blind to see him. Is this the same in your life? Are you blinded by your sins, distracted by school, do you not see Christ is with you today and right now? Many of us live day to day without realizing our God is with us day to day, hour by hour, minute by minute, second by second, nanosecond by nanosecond. I hope you get my point. But yet we live as if He is not with us. Why?

God is with you today, thus we call him Emmanuel (God with us). This bring us joy that our God is with us, but at the same time makes us reflect our lives. To all things, give glory to God.

Questions to Think About:
1. Why were the disciples binded to see Christ?
2. Why do we fail to recognize God is with us?
3. How do you feel that God is with you all the time?
4. How can you see Christ more clearly?

1. Why were the disciples blinded to see Christ?
SIN! I believe sin blinded them, that they could not see anything as good as Jesus.

2. Why do we fail to recognize God is with us?
Sin! once again i say it was sin and us because we make that sin. also sometimes we push him away because we do not want to see him, sometimes we think that Jesus is not the solution to our problems so we push him away.

3. How do you feel that God is with you all the time?
it comforts me, because when i was a 1st or 2nd grader i didn't really have friends to plat with so i played with God even though he wasn't there with me physically. People thought i was weird and i would understand why they thought i was weird but i really did feel comforted when i was "playing" with God.

4. How can you see Christ more clearly?
for me i could see Christ pore clearly just by trying to keep my faith strong with him.

1. Why were the disciples blinded to see Christ?

Binded or blinded??
I'm going with Blinded because Katelyn did that too HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEH (:<
The disciples were blinded to see Christ because they didn't believe that Christ was truly there. They were blinded because they did not recognize the power of God to be able to rise up again from the dead.

2. Why do we fail to recognize God is with us?

We fail to recognize that God is with us all the time because we cannot see his presence with us here. As humans, it is hard to trust and believe in something that we cannot see because we think that seeing is believing.

3. How do you feel that God is with you all the time?

I feel more comforted and independent that God is here with me all the time because when I'm by myself without friends, I'm not REALLY by myself because God is with me all the time.

4. How can you see Christ more clearly?

I can see Christ more clearly by getting to know him more and understanding him. But it's not something that happens overnight.

1) I guess I'll go with blinded too? ^^
They were blinded to see Christ because they did not have a faith in chrst and because of the sin.

2) We get caught up with the world all of our days except Fridays and Sunday. We get distracted by the technologies and other things we idolize and things we put up before christ. So we always forget the exsistence of christ

3) Prayer, When we pray, we are talkin to God through christ, which means that we actually believe and think that God I real. We feel God's presence that way.

4) We can see God clearly by getting t know christ more and more. And by growing a stronger faith in him day by day.

1) The disciples were blinded because they were too distracted by the whole situation of Jesus' body being gone. They were too concentrated upon how crazy that was that they failed to realize that the truth was standing right in front of them.

2) Just like the disciples, we are distracted by this world and so we fail to recognize His presence. We're all so distracted by and so focused on school, friends, and media that God is in the back of our minds.

3) For me personally, I know God is with me because I'm constantly reminded of how I need to represent Christ through my actions. If God wasn't with me, I would act any way I wanted without caring. Another way I know God is with me is when I'm feeling really lonely or just in a bad mood, I can always turn to prayer and God is there to listen to me.

4) We can see Christ more clearly by spending more time in prayer and in His word. I've been failing at that recently and that's why I've been feeling a bit more lonely and so out of it >-<
